Series 6 of record group 84-48 consists of material relating to fire fighting and fire prevention in Michigan forests for the years 1939-76. Includes fire plans, a radio operator's manual from the Department of Natural Resources, and timber examinations. The fire plans were distributed to the crews fighting the 1976 Walsh Ditch Fire, an extensive fire that burned for weeks in Schoolcraft County. The timber examinations were made in 1939 and focused on the amount of merchantable dead timber on each parcel of land, offering the name of the examiner, section mapped, where in the section the wood is located, and what kind of dead wood could be found.
